I played Farmville 2. It was fun, but it became so bogged down that the bigger the farm got, the slower it made my PC.

I will stand by the fact that Farm Town was not the rip-off, FarmVille was, and Farm Town was the superior game, even if it had slightly inferior graphics. I’ve always thought this, and will choose to stick with this! That said, FarmVille was definitely more popular.

Back when Farmville 1 was around, Zynga had this thing where they would use the exact same character assets across multiple games such as of course Farmville 1, YoVille (now YoWorld and no longer owned by Zynga), and the short lived Farmville spin-off, Frontierville.

dude u just completely unlocked memories of me grinding FarmVille tropical escape as a child

This dug up so much forgotten time from my formative years spent on farmville and other facebook games. I never bought anything in the game so instead I had an alarming amount of random friends on facebook just for those games that had those "ask friends for help" request that i now have to imagine were extremely annoying. I thank god for stardew valley and the metric ton of farming games it spawned for depopularizing this model. (I also wandered into that MMO thing once, it looked like a janky zynga version of habbo hotel? Today I cannot find proof of it ever existing)

Does anyone remember a 2D overhead (not sure if it was top-down or isometric) town/city life sim which was getting advertised on social media several months (maybe even a year) ago where the player character is talking to or listening to a bus driver while en route to the location? I'm a mix between one and two, but I expected there was like ten games, not only five.

My mom used to be Literally addicted to farmville, she would spend every moment she could playing it, i dont even want to know how much money she ended up spending on it. So i dont quite have the nostalgia for this one like some others do... I did get a facebook account at a younger age than i should have specifically to play games tho lol

My most prevailing memory from FarmVille was how my friend’s mom added me on Facebook just so that she could have another person to send FarmVille requests to. I’d come home from school every day to the max possible requests from her 😂

I have Country Escape on this computer, I haven't booted it up in ages, and I probably don't have a save file on it anymore, but it is still installed and on my Start Menu.

I played farmville a ton back in the day. but then they started adding crops you had to pay to unlock. the thing I focused on in the game was getting "mastery" of all the crops available. so I quit playing once I realised they were just going to keep releasing these things for money, that used to be free... sadge

I felt called out for that second reason but also…im…so surprised there is FIVE farmville games. I bet there is a 6th one that in VR. They have such a strong staying power

Yeah okay so you didn't mention it. The collaborative issue with Farmville was mostly wall posting. To get fuel for your tractor, quest items, or any sort of boost or usability from things without paying real money, you had to post on your facebook wall. Then another player in your friend list was required to click on that post to give you that items. This was fine in the hayday. We'd curate an entire account of other players and you could get your things pretty easily, but as the player base started to die off, the collaborative nature of the game started to ruin, well, your own game. If you wanted anything done you were begging someone to just click on a darned post, even though it wouldn't cost them more than one click of a mouse, most people just stopped doing it. Meaning you, in your game, just wanting to play your little idle farming thing, had to sit there and watch nothing at all happen, your quests never complete, or shell out real life money for this game that use to be so fruitful and enjoyable. That's why I quit. Maybe around 2012? I missed it so badly though. I even had fake accounts to help myself and my friends out with more wall posts and more clicking opportunities. But it just.... stopped having players. And being required to "help each other out" and "be a social game" meant those of us that were left alone just couldn't do anything anymore without it costing us.
